I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be playing at the National Underground a week from this Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm.
The National Underground, owned by Gavin and Joey DeGraw, was the first club to give me a weekly spot when I moved here in 2008. It was a magical thing to have had a Saturday night residency there, and I’ve always been grateful for that opportunity. It’s my pleasure to come back and play their stage, now positioned much more strategically towards the back of the room (in my day, the performance area was along the side, which was intimate but crowded and created awkward bathroom lines).
There will be no cover for this gig, but we will be passing a bucket around, and I’ll get a percentage of the bar’s take during my set — the more you drink, the more I make, and the sooner I get asked back!
I love doing longer sets like this — in a normal 40-minute set, there’s a tendency to lean heavily on the latest stuff, so the same ten songs tend to happen, but with two full hours, I can stretch out and do both stuff from the next album and from the last bunch, without watching the clock or worrying about my time!
So come on out to the National Underground, right by the 2nd Ave stop on the F, Wed the 12th from 7 (sharp) to 9 (sharp), and hoist a few while I warm up your winter for a spell!
Also, if you’re in Sunset Park, Andy Mac and I will be doing a set on Sunday the 9th at the Irish “The Departed Was Filmed Here” Haven from 8 ’til 11!
