I started work on the first new Song Monkey episode since the campaign ended yesterday, and was once again met with a wall where equipment was concerned. I think I’ve gotten past that wall, though, so this week I will continue work on it. You can fully expect that soon you will be treated to the most recent version of Eagle-Eye Cherry’s hit ever!
The Polar Vortex has wreaked absolute havoc on my production schedule. I live in Harlem, Brandon lives in Brighton Beach. That’s only a few miles, but it’s about 90 minutes on the train, and when the weather hits, the trains that go to Brandon’s get super-unreliable, so that causes problems. Also, colds and flus. Still, we’re hoping that this Wednesday night, we can put an end to this drought of work and get things moving again. Our checklist is more green than red, so we’re over the hump, but we need to, and will, buckle in and get this project done soon.
If you’re a member of the Executive Listener’s Club, I hope you’re taking advantage of the opportunity to listen to the album while it’s taking shape, because I’ve gotta say, more than anything I’ve ever done, this is something I enjoy listening to. I used to listen to work mixes analytically, thinking about how to bring things up to par. Now, I listen to them to try and figure out what I can add without screwing it up, because I truly enjoy each of these tracks! Brad, Brandon, and Michael have all done such great jobs — it almost makes me miss having a band.
If you’re in NYC, you should stop by the PATH Cafe this Friday night. I’m playing at 10, but first, my good friend CKay is going to play. CKay’s voice is so great and assured that I asked her to sing one of the songs on the new album with me, and she agreed! We’re going to be working “You’re Mine” into a duet, and I think it’s actually going to improve the song, as well as round out the last section of the album.
More to come soon!
