Weekend Blog Dump: I Am This Much Of A Dork.

554392-daria_281x211Dear Listener,

How are you? I am fine.

Right now, I am AirPlaying Hannibal from Amazon Instant Video (man do I wish you could airplay 5.1 right now), while moving files from an SD card to my hard drive, while moving encoded video of the complete series of Daria (from Ana’s legitimately bought DVD) through iTunes to a networked LaCie Quadro. I’m gonna tag them with episode descriptions from IMDB. I’ve got a glass of Malbec and a nutritious meal (I’m serious) on its’ way from Harlem Shake.

THIS IS HOW YOU DO FRIDAY NIGHT, PEOPLE.

Tomorrow, I’m thinking brunch with my fiancée. Maybe if it’s warm enough, I’ll walk around looking for stuff to take pictures of for the liner notes, although I’m partial to today’s idea of using dirty laundry for the lyric background. A lot of people don’t know that I’ve been doing my own layout work since 1996 — Stone Soup’s album is the only one that I haven’t either designed or photographed myself. Here Goes Nothing has been my cleanest and best design work so far, and I’m excited to continue the trend, especially with all of the ideas that have been coming around. A visit to my friends Addi and Joe gave you the front cover that you’re all familiar with by now, while a gift from Ana has given inspiration to the back cover. Now I get to go out there and find more stuff for liner note stuff — it’s all very exciting!

Tomorrow night, I’m going out with college buddies. What’s amazing to me is that they are in fact college buddies, who regard me as such, despite the fact that I dropped out in our sophomore year. It goes to show you: it just doesn’t matter. That’s not to say you shouldn’t stay in school if at all possible, because I wish now that I had — just that, if you’re in the throes of suicidal depression because you’re falling down the sinkhole of dropping out, perspective is important, and college looks much smaller from 39.

Sunday, I am going to answer all my unanswered messages, and revive the Song Monkey! I hit a wall with the first attempt at Save Tonight, but I realize now that I tried to be too clever that time, and need to take it on the right way this time. I’m going to embrace the simplicity of that song first, then come at it from all the different ways and see if I can’t explode the arrangement in a way that when I remove the nucleus, it all hangs together without it. Should be interesting, might just be Save Tonight. Either way, expect it this week!

Keep your head up,

Paul
