Spike Hill, 8/14/2012: Something To Prove.

Tonight at Spike Hill, I didn’t just come out solo after two bands, I came out solo after a 7-piece gypsy punk band.

The Butcher Knives, while in err about not using the skills of Spike Hill’s soundman-in-residence Danny, brought a dancing, sweating, gorgeous crowd out to Williamsburg, and stuck around to hear my set (as did at least one member of opening act Ghandi.) I was, for once, self-conscious about the fact that I was going up solo on a bill of bands, so I brought some stuff I don’t always bring. Set list to my best recall:

Wonderful Lie
I Think You Should Leave
Right On
Untouchable Face (Ani DiFranco)
Not Giving Up
Astoria
We Caved In
Foxhole
Boy Meets Girl
New York
Such Great Heights (the Postal Service)
Hey Hey Hey

There may have been more that I can’t think of at the moment, but that’s a pretty good bunch of variety if I do say so.

I was rewarded with kindness as I came off-stage, and made friends both at the bar and on the train on the way home. All in all, a good night, and one I can’t wait to repeat next week!

Any of you in the LES, please come join me for an evening at Culturefix to….. eh, I guess tonight, Wednesday night, at 7:00. Culturefix is awesome, and super-close to both the Beast and the 2nd Ave stop on the F. See you there!
