Tonight will be my first night in the studio, recording with Brandon Wilde, making “Two People Made This Mess” a reality! I spent the morning writing out the BPMs from the demos to give us a guiding light through the first session (for click-track purposes) — most likely, we’re gonna do a bunch of live takes of songs and figure out where to go from there. Currently on the list of songs I’d like to run by Brandon:

I think if he and I listen to this mix of songs together, we’ll narrow down pretty easily which ones resonate most for us. The goal here is for me to present my latest batch along with some others that have slipped through the cracks and to let Brandon bring a fresh ear to the proceedings. At this point, it’s all basically up in the air — except for Misophone, which is my vanity track on this one — and who knows? Maybe I’ll write a new one while we’re in the thralls of this project! It’s how we got Under My Nails, I Love You, Big Star, Please, and New York, after all: a big flurry of inspiration toward the end of the process can go a long way!
